So, it is DEFINITELY coming on Autumn now, you can really feel the chill in the air at night – but yet we have another day of beautiful blue skies…
It wasn’t like this a couple of weeks ago though! At the start of the month we had the wettest September in 20 years – I don’t mind it getting colder, but rain, for the most part is a right hassle – it’s nice when you’re wrapped up on the couch but sucks when you’re meant to be doing stuff out in the world.
I was meant to go on the Folk Train from Chester on the first Wednesday but couldn’t because it was raining so bad – it’s this night were you get the train from Chester and a load of musicians play on the train, you go to a pub in Plumley all play there – have food and drink, be merry and then all get on the train again back to Chester – it’s meant to be loads of fun so was pretty gutted when it didn’t happen…BUT i did use my time wisely to sort through loads of music sheets and put them into a shiney new file and stop them being scattered all round the house – and hopefully they’ll organise another one soon…
And as it’s getting even colder at night time I thought it only right to treat myself to a new pair of flannelette pj bottoms – ain’t they cute? They’re so soft and warm and have little birds on and a friggin’ velvet ribbon – what more do you want – they’re just-got-out-the-bath-cosy-fantastic 🙂
Donna had her girls pyjama party last weekend and the weekend before on the Sunday I finally tested out the cheats Maryland Cookie recipe I’ve been meaning to do for ages – they turned out great – tasted just like Maryland but they were bigger! Took them to Sunday Jazz and The Cali and Charlie’s birthday in Sound and they went down a treat so made them again for this weekend 🙂 Laura King has requested Oat and Raisin cookies for tomorrow 🙂
Ha ha ha and I was using the little mixer for the first time and had one of those comedy moments when as soon as I switched it on it went everywhere and I got covered in cookie dough – deeper bowl needed next time I think :S 🙂
Here’s the recipe…(I halved it though as didn’t need 35 biscuits!)
- 165g vegetable shortening (e.g. TREK) or margarine (you can buy this in Tesco’s by the butter amd margerine!)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 75g sugar
- 4 tbsp golden syrup
- 2 tsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 260g plain flour
- 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 100g plain chocolate chips
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 10 mins
Woke up today and it was beautiful and sunny – a perfect day for a walk around the Swan. It’s real chilly though so big scarf and owl mittens needed – crisp and bright 🙂
It may seem odd to buy summer shoes in these conditions but i saw these bad boys in one of the charity shops so thought why not? They were only £3.50 and they’re real leather an suede – had a laugh with the shop people about buying them when it was so cold outside but i reckon these little guys are gonna be with me for a long time! Mega comfy!
And then a trip to the new Poundland reminded me of some advice from a friend – and i bloody LOVE a Poundland.
I’m trying to save money and Laura Hall was telling me about the way she keeps any £2 coins she gets in a jar and that way you’ve alwys got a bit of extra cash if you need it – but if you leave it for a wile they really add up so got the little Postie money box – plus had two £2 coins in my purse so was able to put some in from the start – plus new diary and some bead pens 🙂
Last night we went to The Kazimier for The Darktown Strutters Ball – it was ace! Out in the garden – it was cold but they had the bonfires on so warm myslef like a hobo next to them – plus now my scarf smells like bonfire which i really like – it was good to be able to dance to Sidney Bailey’s No Good Punchin Clowns and The Flamin’ Mamies without the usual squeeze in Peter K’s.
I love The Kazimier garden as well – i’m getting some out the big outdoor carnival fairy lights they have for my garden – add that to the chiminea and we’ve got right cosy night time garden times 🙂
A restorative few days by the seaside, bigger picture, bigger life – thank you from the bottom of my heart Katie xxxxxxxxxxxxx
As it seems to be getting colder by the day (cue last minute heatwave…) and today was payday, it felt rude not to stock up on some well cosy woolly leggings in preparation for the Winter wrap up.
I LOVE Fairisle patterns SO much it’s ridiculous, actually ridiculous, I would wear and decorate my house with nothing else if i could…but I’ll settle for now for the new addition of these!
I also got these burnt orange stripey ones and two cable knit leggings as well – they have flecks of other colours in them which look really lovely :)PLUS…some fairisle knee socks, fleece lined house socks…and a MEGA cute pair of Owl mittens – and I am set for the cold nights! 🙂
I’m loving making my brown scarf so much that when i saw this green wool i decided to make another one!
I love the colours in it….but i’m still a bit unsure as to whether it looks a bit too ”Army/Camoflage-y” for my liking – i’m gonna stick with it for a bit though as think i might just need to let it grow a bit more before i can really decide!
